This timeline is a living document of the ongoing violence inside New Haven Correctional Center (NHCC) during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is primarily made up of testimony from people inside NHCC, spoken over the phone to volunteers on the Connecticut Bail Fund prison support hotline and written in letters to Bail Fund staff since March. Their words have been transcribed, formatted, and contextualized with links, graphics, and additional information by non-incarcerated volunteers.
As people on the outside, taking our lead from those inside who have been speaking up and organizing, we have multiple aims for this timeline. We hope it can create a platform for those incarcerated to share their experiences, perspectives, and knowledge. We hope it can be a political education tool for people outside to learn from people inside about what is going on behind the walls. We hope it can be a tool for building connection and mutual support. We hope it can be a resource for current and future campaigns to free our community members incarcerated at NHCC, in Connecticut at large, and across the country.
We have kept all testimony anonymous for the safety of those inside. If you or someone you know would like to share testimony, offer feedback, or get involved with this work, please reach out to us at [email protected].
